Popular Gay Cruising Areas in Provincetown
Provincetown is home to one of the world's most famous cruising spots.
Provincetown, often dubbed “P-Town,” is probably America’s biggest gay tourism spot. While the town’s gay scene is centered around bars and events, there are also discreet outdoor spots that are popular for cruising.
As Provincetown is so small, in peak season it’s overrun with gays. You won’t find many straight people! As the gays will be looking for action, there’s no shortage of places to find it. Here’s a rundown of some of Provincetown’s best-known cruising areas.
Dick Dock
Yes, you heard that right. The fabled dick dock is one of America’s most notorious gay cruising spots. It’s in a discreet location beneath the town’s main boardwalk. This spot has been part of P-Town’s cruising culture for years.
Dick Dock is located under the Boatslip Resort’s deck, along the waterfront. The Boatslip is a popular resort in Provincetown, famous for its daily Tea Dance parties. When the day’s festivities end, some people head down to Dick Dock under the resort’s main deck, which juts out into the water. This space is tucked away and offers a sense of privacy while still being central to the lively atmosphere of the resort and the nearby beach. As a gay monument, Dick Dock is the Eiffel Tower of cruising areas. It’s the only stretch of sand where you’ll find as many kneeprints as footprints.
Herring Cove Beach
Herring Cove Beach is a well-known cruising spot in Provincetown. The further you walk along the beach, the more secluded it becomes, especially towards the northern end near the dunes. The dunes are well worth the trip. Activity often picks up in the late afternoon and early evening. You’ll find a varied selection of guys. You can’t miss the cruising section: hungry eyes will be scanning the horizon for trade. Cruise your way around the dunes and see what you find.
The Dunes at Race Point Beach
If you want to get more adventurous, the dunes at Race Point Beach offer a more remote and private cruising option. This area, with its winding paths and grassy dunes, is perfect for those seeking a discreet experience. While the hike out to the dunes requires some effort, the reward is a sense of privacy and freedom that’s hard to find elsewhere. Late afternoon and early evening are the best times to visit, with peak activity during the warmer months. Dick Dock is much easier to access but Race Point Beach is worth a trek if you like walking.
