One of the key historical milestones for Philadelphia Pride occurred on July 4, 1965, when activists held what is known as the first major LGBTQ+ rights demonstration in the U.S. at Independence Hall, later termed the "Annual Reminders." These demonstrations laid the groundwork for the first official Philadelphia Gay Pride Parade and Festival in June 1972.
