Going strong since 2015, Sonic Yootha is a gay-run monthly queer disco with a difference. Its name is play on 80's New York City rock band Sonic Youth whilst paying homage to 70's gay icon Yootha Joyce.
The night aims to be the antidote to the restrictive door policies you might find elsewhere on the gay scene, and people of all ages from all over the country attend. Expect to see teenagers dancing with couples in their 60's from everything to new wave, old rave, techno, disco, electro, to rock, pop and soul.
Homos, heteros, drag shows, freak shows and don't-knows are all welcome. Respect, the right attitude and a good time are key themes for the night.
