New Orleans Pride has become a vibrant celebration deeply rooted in the city's rich tapestry of culture and diversity. The first official New Orleans Pride festival took place in 2011, although LGBTQ+ celebrations in the city date back much earlier, reflecting the community’s strong presence and activism. New Orleans Pride typically features a wide array of events, including parades, parties, and educational events that span several days.
The parade is a central event, showcasing a lively procession through the historic French Quarter, starting at Elysian Fields and culminating in a block party. The celebration extends beyond the parade with numerous activities such as the Pride Fest at the Phoenix Bar, which includes special events like the "History and Happy Hour" tour that explores the queer history of New Orleans. This tour and other events blend education with celebration, highlighting important milestones and figures in the local LGBTQ+ community.
Another significant event is Pride @ The Broadside, which combines music, food, and fun at New Orleans' premier outdoor music venue. This event features all LGBTQ+-fronted bands and performers, along with an art market, showcasing some of the city’s most talented creative professionals. On-site HIV testing, giveaways, and signature beverages are also available, with a portion of the proceeds supporting local LGBTQ+ organizations (Official NOLA Pride).
Additionally, the NOLA Pride Parade is a highlight, with a route that takes revelers through iconic neighborhoods such as the Marigny and the French Quarter, culminating in a lively gathering on Bourbon Street.
